[ Jean is startled when Reiner asks that, mentally rewinding the conversation. He had said that without thinking -

And honestly, although maybe some would say it's too soon, he can't find it in himself to regret it. It was a slip of the mental tongue, but he's not going to take it back. ]

Yeah, I do. Why wouldn't I?

[ There's a warmth that comes through, and this time the images that Jean sends are not titillating, but his own observations. Reiner's kindness with Gabi and Falco. Reiner, smiling a little as Connie and Jean talk to each other. Reiner's appreciation when Jean brings him food, his determination to return the favor. His gentleness with the animals around the farm.

A million little moments that make up the love he has for him. ]

[ Images come one after another, and there is silence on Reiner's end for a moment. Silence as he sees himself through Jean's eyes, unfiltered. Sees parts of himself that he can't see, blinded as he is by his own self-loathing.

Then comes a trickle of images in return. It's Jean, through Reiner's eyes. Jean showing up on the doorstep with food. Jean playfully arguing. Jean rolling his eyes and laughing. Jean loudly complaining. Jean in uniform, sitting across a fire. Jean smiling a sweet smile when he thinks Reiner isn't looking. ]

I love you, too.

[neighsaying]

[ Getting the images in return is actually overwhelming, in a way. It makes him want to cover his face, except he can't hide from them. It's the sweetest kind of torture. ]

Come over?

[ A moment later, ]

I'm at Dolph's cabana.

[ He knows Reiner is staying with Erwin, and on the list of people he allows to see him becoming a blubbering mess, Dolph is somehow more acceptable than Erwin. ]

[ Immediately: ]

I'm on my way. Except you'll have to give me directions.

[ Assuming Jean does so, Reiner will show up as soon as is physically possible. Sooner, actually, since he turns into a rhino and jogs part of the way. It's faster than walking, and he wants to see Jean as soon as possible. ]

[neighsaying]

[ Jean does give directions to Dolph's house, at least from the portal of Stellari since Reiner will have to go through it.

But, when he arrives, Jean is at the front door. He's dressed down for him, wearing a button up that's loosely buttoned and loose sleeping pants. When he spots Reiner, he flushes and smiles, and steps off the stoop to greet him with a hug. ]

[ Seeing Jean's face, Reiner smiles himself, bright and warm. He moves into Jean's embrace readily, eyes closing as he sinks into it. Breathing in Jean's scent. ]

Hello, love.

[ He murmurs it, trying the endearment aloud. ]

[neighsaying]

[ Reiner's pressed close enough that he can probably hear the way Jean's heart beats a little faster at that. He tucks his nose into pale blonde hair, closing his eyes. ]

Hey love, yourself, you big rhino.

[ Obviously Jean has show a little too much affection and needs to be slightly annoying to compensate. Still, he presses a kiss to the top of Reiner's head. ]

[ Reiner chuckles against Jean's collar, one hand sliding up to the back of Jean's neck. Fingers playing with Jean's silky hair. ]

I can't believe you didn't know I can turn into one.

[neighsaying]

I can't believe how much it fits you, honestly.

[ He's seen pictures, it even looks like it has armor. ]

... I'm happy that you're here.

[ He knows there's a lot of reasons he should not be, that they should probably want to return home. For all that this place can be a nightmare, though, in other ways Jean finds it preferable. ]

[ Reiner's breath hitches. He draws back a little, looking up into Jean's eyes. Seeing the truth there, shining out at him.

He swallows. Smiles, small but true. ]

I'm happy you're here, too.

[ Then he rises on tiptoe to kiss Jean's lips, still smiling. Because right now, he is happy. ]
