[ He leaves the talk of Hange, Levi, and Erwin alone for now, with the array of soaps to look over. He keeps in mind that Levi doesn't want things that are too complicated, so he avoids the ones that are a mix of three or more scents.
He does find a coconut one and lifts it. ]
... Huh, I wonder why he hates this smell?
[ He trades soaps with Mikasa so they examine them. ]
This one does smell like something he'd like, though.

[ Her nose wrinkles a little: she's not a huge fan of it either, apparently. They've never had so many varied options for something as simple as soap before, and she finds herself drawn to the softer, simpler scents, the ones that might linger but only to people who are close enough to smell it in her hair.
The lemon is nice, and a lavender one that interests her. There's something to be said about the rose one, given the insignia of their fellow soldiers, but there are enough simple, plain ones that they have a lot to choose from. ]
We can get him a few and if he doesn't like them, one of the others can use it.

[ Is he almost disappointed? Maybe! He'll discover hair shampoo later, and then everyone will have to deal with coconut head.
He does, however, look through the soap with her, noting her tendency to softer scents. He notices he's more drawn to stronger, bolder scents, like lemon-mint or tarragon, but he decides between Erwin's suggestion and her tendencies, she's probably more likely to pick something Levi would like.
He's picking up one with wings on it that says it smells like 'clean laundry' but only makes him sneeze, away from both seller and Mikasa, before he sets it down. ]
I think that's a good idea, like a little collection. Lemon's probably a given, and the lavender was nice - anything else you think we should grab?

[ No standard issue washing equipment here! The notion of being able to indulge in luxuries, something as simple as soap, is still leaving her feeling a little uneasy. They can just go and get cakes? They can choose fancy things for themselves? The freedom of choice is an interesting change for Mikasa, who never cared before.
Glancing up at his sneeze, she smiles softly, her lips twitching up and staying here. ]
Here. These.
[ A lemon, one of the lavenders, a sandalwood, and a rosemary one. ]
I think they'll be fine. I saw the tea he had at his house when I visited, so we can get him more of that.
i put sandalwood cologne in his olfactory description so --
He watches her pick up a few for Levi, and looks over a few more before he grabs a second sandalwood and lemon one, dropping it into the paper bag. He's pulling something out of his shirt - his pendant, a teardrop of diamond, to pay, before he pauses. ]
You should grab one too - and one for Eren. Then we can get some tea for the Captain.
:eyes:
That one would suit you.
[ The sandalwood, she means. ]

He pays the stall owner with a smile, folding over the top of the bag and tucking it under his arm. When she compliments the choice he made, he flushes slightly. ]
Thanks. I used to have a cologne with that scent -for when we had to visit the interior.
[ Still a cool city kid at heart... ]

Nodding, she steps away and begins to walk around to find the tea shop. ]
Is there anything else you want? We could find some cologne.
no subject
Lets see how the soap works out, first. My mother always told me if you put too much on, it has the opposite effect.
[ And scented soap is a nice luxury, but he can't really justify the cologne when they have access to apparently-unlimited warm water. He looks around for the tea shop, and reaches out with his arm to point it out to her when he spots it. It's an actual whole shop, not just a stall. ]
That looks like... a lot of tea.
no subject
[ Are these the kinds of things people worried about in the interior? Smelling nice enough? When you live with soldiers for enough time, things like smelling good matters a little less.
They pause in front of the tea shop, and she just... Blinks at it. ]
It's probably good I saw the blend he liked.
[ And not his ring? Girl, sort out your priorities. ]
no subject
[ This is the kind of thing interior people worry about. It's not really something Jean bothered with - as evidenced by noting he only used it when they went to the interior - and didn't fuss with it the rest of the time.
He laughs, part relief and part nervousness. ]
I was going to suggest we get at least one new thing for him to try, but we might be here forever if we do that. Your plan sounds better.
no subject
[ Mostly because they were scared of her, not because she smelled of something bad or overwhelming.
Stepping into the store, she holds the door open for Jean to follow before she nods her head. ]
Do you like tea? I can get you some.
no subject
[ It's important that she knows that. She could be covered in blood and titan gore and he still wouldn't avoid her!
He steps in, looking around and looking just the tiniest bit overwhelmed by choice, although he doesn't panic the way Sasha or Connie might. It makes him move a little closer to her. ]
Sure. I never really paid much attention back home.
[ So probably just the regiment's standard issue black tea, and the occasional chai for the holidays. ]
no subject
I wouldn't either.
[ What she means is she wouldn't avoid him, but that might not come across particularly well. The soap had been overwhelming a little, but this? It feels like she's being assaulted by herbs and scents, nose wrinkling before she starts to poke around. ]
I'll get the captain's and my own.
no subject
Either way, he sympathizes with her not enjoying the collective smells of many different kinds of tea. He follows her, just to pay attention to what she's getting for herself and for the captain, and offers to pay if she wants. ]
no subject
These ones.
[ And then she stops. This isn't tea, but... Lifting it into her hands. It's cocoa. ]
We should get this too.
we'll get levi fruit tea another time --
That's a good idea. For the Captain?
levi isn't important now, only cocoa
This one is for us. For our house.
[ Something extravagant, uniquely so. It still feels like an expensive commodity. ]
Tea for the captain, cocoa for us.
no subject
She's so sweet, does she even realize it? ]
T-that's a good idea. Niccolo taught me how to make it once.
[ He waves her towards the counter where they can pay. ]
no subject
[ She follows after him, deliberately making sure she can slip in first so he doesn't try to pay for her. She has her eye on you, Jean. ]
Do you want to have some tonight?
no subject
Well, he only showed me once, you could secretly be the master of it. And... that'd be nice, we could all three have a cup.
[ Gotta include Eren! He seems fond of the idea, though. ]
no subject
[ Not that she necessarily believes that yet, but...
Purchases made, she slips back to the doorway. ]
Anywhere else?
no subject
[ If he went home tomorrow, he would be sad that he hadn't shared a cup of cocoa with her. So they might as well do it tonight, so that they have no regrets about it.
He follows her out the doorway, shaking his head. ]
If you want, we can take a look around, but the only other store Erwin mentioned sold things like oils.
no subject
[ She'll trust it eventually - just not yet.
For now, she's happy to slip out into the fresh air, breathing out softly. ]
Do we have things for dinner?
no subject
We have some things, if we're okay with a simple stew or breakfast for dinner again, but we could make something healthier if we picked up some more vegetables. [ Pausing. ] And meat, if we wanted it.
[ Meat being relatively cheap here compared to home is just a wild thought still. ]
